Our Philosophy
Welcome to our little corner of the internet. Caintmakit Racing started out as a joke (after Paul overheard a hilarious conversation at the dragstrip between a few 'locals') and has now transformed into quite the debacle of automotive experiences.
Most of us attended or graduated from GMI/Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, which could be a story upon itself. Flint is an interesting place, severely depressing at times, yet I'm sure most of us wouldn't change a thing about our times spent there. The school wasn't that great either..unless you discovered the student vehicle teams such as FSAE or Lightning, not to mention the Firebirds car club. If you were a gearhead, there was always something to build, fix or race on any given weekend. I, along with many others, was exposed to autocrossing and TSD rallying at school through the Firebirds. Needless to say, it was addictive.
We had (and to some extents, still do) this nasty habit of racing complete junk. Stock 'Power' Rangers, Jettas, Mazda pickup trucks, Mail Jeeps, and many a rental were subjected to repeated autocrossing/rallying abuse. More than a few were damaged or wrecked in one form or another. Stories of rentals being returned with JB Welded oil pans or broken motor mounts/bald tires (usually from doing burnouts) were commonplace..the stories we have could fill up this website five times over. Some have even been recorded on video for posterity. This naturally evolved into our current projects...
At this moment there is a fair number of us with competition-prepared vehicles, mostly for autocross and rally events. Skip is busy fixing and racing his silver 95 T-bird. Brian Scott just sold his PGT Eagle Talon and has stepped up to an EVO IV for the CARS Canadian Rally Championship series, Matt can be spotted anywhere in Detroit autocrossing his MR2, and I'm slowly transforming my 68 Charger into a Dick Landy Super Stock clone. The above picture is at the Silver Lake sand dunes, where we took turns in offroading, jumping, and breaking our daily drivers, toys, and tow vehicles. Some aren't even fixed, over four months later. That's another key point regarding Caintmakit Racing...we break stuff. Often. Our tagline has always been 'Just fast enough to break stuff and hurt ourselves', which is more than appropriate.
Honestly, most of us are addicted to this rather unorthodox lifestyle. We spend every dime made on our cars, but it's entirely worth it. When you're diving into turn 11 at Road America trailbraking the crap out of your '95 T-Bird to keep a C5 off your tail, two feet of the ground at Brockway Mountain, nailing an apex and chirping 3rd gear with your B2000 in lot 7, street racing off of Dort Highway, or cresting a dune at Silver Lake, you MIGHT understand. We're having fun, and that's all that matters.
I'm going to periodically update this page, and others on the site, with current Caintmakit Racing outings, so anyone interested in witnessing the spectacle (or just wanting to hang out with a bunch of car freaks and *maybe* consume an alcoholic beverage or two) can get in contact with us. Look for updates/times/contact info shortly. In the meantime, keep 'er shiny side up.
