"Fastest Pickup on Campus!"
|
F100
This is Travis Slagle's 1960 Ford F100 pickup. Without a doubt, the Fastest pickup on campus.
UPDATE: Vehicle currently has a dead cylinder, most likely valvetrain related. Sunnnofabitch.
This beast is motivated by a 1985 351W HO small-block, with an eldelbrock intake, 1850 model Holley carb, HO spec cam and headers topped off by the most interesting exhaust ever heard on a vehicle. At first glance they're glasspacks, but they aren't. You have to hear it to apreciate it, I'll see about getting an audio recording of his bad-ass set of pipes soon. Also makes the most obnoxious peelout sounds ever heard, quite a tremendous vehicle just for audio/visual thrills alone!
Shifting duties are handled by a 1992 Ford Truck 5spd. Even with the truck's rather tame 3.25 gears, it chirps 3rd, hard. Sean peeled out in this truck once, and was immediately rewarded with 3 tickets and a court appearance.
That killer stance is provided by the 1979 Chrysler Cordoba front suspension/k-member. It gave this truck civilized road manners with power steering, disc brakes and wonderfully adjustable torsion bars. However, that same stance does not lend itself well to autocrossing, at a school autox the constant front end rise and fall caused the battery to release itself from it's hold-down, landing on the passenger's side header, burning a hole and making a general mess of the place.
This truck has been in many a Flint-Town street race- beating many an unsuspecting challenger. John Force himself was taken out 3 times, apparently the 1/8th mile burnouts he performed did nothing to help his 1985 Monte Carlo run any better. That night we started Travis out racing stock trucks, beat EVERYBODY, and by the end of the night he raced a LX 5.0 5spd, and kept up, too!
